Unsecured Loads in Your Vehicle

What do carpenters have in common with carpet fitters? What links landscape gardeners and plasterers?  Despite carrying out very different activities, these workers have at least one thing in common – they all need a vehicle, whether it is a car or a van, to earn their living.  This same fact holds true for many more tradesmen - builders, electricians and painters and decorators to name but a few.

If you or any of your workers use a car or a van in the course of your business, you need to be aware of the dangers of unrestrained loads.  In the event of a sudden manoeuvre, such as braking or swerving, or a collision, unsecured tools and equipment can become lethal weapons, flying through the vehicle and injuring the occupants – sometimes fatally.

A key issue that you need to be aware of is that whilst vans often include load restraining features as standard, these aren’t always available on estate cars.
