Emerging Careers and jobs for the 21st century
The way we earn a living and the professions we choose as careers can be due to careful planning or, in some cases, by chance or parental influence. What is certain though is that the nature of many jobs is changing along with the types of businesses and the associated environments in which we work.
Many of the emerging professions around the world have been driven across three sectors – technology, health care and the environment. Emerging professions and careers are not only opportunities for job seekers but also for the many service industries such as business insurance providers and risk advisors. Professional indemnity insurance and liability insurance are just two insurance products that may be required for those who are self-employed within an emerging profession.
There are now many professions in existence today that didn’t exist 10-15 years ago. While some are more obscure, there are many that are more commonplace in today’s technologically and environmentally driven society. These include e-commerce specialists such as bloggers, social media managers and user experience analysts. Environmental economists and consultants are also now commonplace as well as recycling co-ordinators and green marketers. There are also many new energy efficiency professions plus more technical careers such as fuel cell engineers and bio-fuel developers.
Technology has also created jobs within education with the growth of distance learning co-ordinators and study mentors and within the health sector as more and more information is processed online.
Every new profession created or expanded upon presents different opportunities in different areas – not least within the support industries - such as business and commercial insurance that will mitigate the risks associated with those new professions.
And what of the future? Predicting future professions and careers isn’t easy but it may be that, in twenty years’ time, we all know a robot polisher, digital archaeologist or an astro banker!
